Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine:

Traditional Chinese medicine originated a few thousand years ago from the Yin-Yang concept or the Yin and Yang school. According to the Yin-Yang concept, Yin and Yang represent opposite but complement each other and, all things and phenomena are both Yin and Yang because of  a cyclical movement of everyhing. Examples of things and phenomena that correspond to the Yin quality are; substance, tranquility, the moon, water and cooling. And examples of things and phenomena that correspond to the Yang quality are; function, activity, the sun, fire and warming.
Later in ancient China, came the Naturalist school dedicated to the Yin-Yang concept and the 5 Elements (Wu Xing *): Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. This school was based on the Yin-Yang concept and the 5 elements to be able to interpret natural phenomena in nature and in the human body in health and disease. The Naturalist school tried to use the laws of nature to man's advantage, not through attempting to control and subdue nature, but by acting and living in harmony with its laws. The 5 elements correspond in nature with the seasons (Spring, Summer, Late summer, Autumn and Winter) and in your body with the Yin-Yang organ systems (liver & gallbladder energy, heart & small intestine energy, stomach & spleen energy, lung & large intestine energy, kidney & bladder energy) each of which performs a function on a physical, emotional and mental level.
Eventually, the traditional Chinese medicine acquired their knowledge, wisdom and philosophy through pure observation of the nature and the human body for thousands of years.
Not only in ancient time can you apply this natural healing method, but also in present modern time by feeling and observing your body and nature and by acting and living in harmony with the laws of nature through natural nutrition and lifestyle.
* The term '5 elements' comes from the Chinese term 'Wu Xing'. 'Wu' means 5 and 'Xing' means process, going or behavior. This shows a broader meaning of an element than the 'western meaning' of the word element.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the Water element corresponds in nature with the winter season, a cold climate, the dark color, salty taste and the transience of life. In your body corresponds the water element with your kidney & bladder energy, your ears and hearing, the emotion fear, courage, modesty and willpower. The main function of your kidney energy is the storage place of your life energy that you have received from your birth parents and that you can supplement and strengthen with nutrition and lifestyle.  Your kidney energy is also the foundation of all your Yin and Yang energies in your body.  According to the Yin-Yang concept, Yin and Yang are each other's opposite, complement each other and all things and phenomena are both Yin and Yang from a cyclical movement. Examples of phenomena in your body that correspond to the Yin quality are;  body tissues, growth, contraction, cold and matter.  And examples of phenomena in your body that correspond to the Yang quality are;  bodily functions, development, expansion, heat and energy.  When your kidney energy is disturbed or weakened, you can suffer from the following complaints such as cold hands and feet, lower back pain, ear and hearing problems, fertility problems, menstruation problems, low libido, hair loss, osteoporosis, adrenal exhaustion, burnout, anxious emotions, nervousness, restlessness and fatigue.
